Welsh Language Scheme Consultation

Research Councils UK (RCUK) have prepared a draft Welsh Language Scheme in accordance with the Welsh Language Act 1993, through which we, and the seven UK Research Councils, will conduct our business.

Under Section 13 of the Act, RCUK have a duty to issue the draft Scheme for public consultation "in order to ascertain views representative of both Welsh speaking and other members of the public who may be affected by the scheme". The consultation commences on 21 February and will end on 1 May. The scheme can be viewed on the RCUK website…

New international plant science network will boost collaborative research

A new European Commission-funded network launched at the end of January will coordinate plant science research across Europe and beyond. 26 partners from 23 countries will pool their resources and expertise in order to fund plant science research programmes to help address global challenges such as ensuring food security and providing sustainable bioenergy. The network, (ERA-NET for Coordinating Action in Plant Sciences - ERA-CAPS) will be coordinated by BBSRC. It will run until 2014 and is expected to fund two calls for collaborative research projects…

£67 million investment in bioscience skills and training to help meet economic and social challenges for the future - 24 January 2012

The Minister for Universities and Science, David Willetts, will today (24 January) announce £67 million of new investment in postgraduate training and development in the biosciences. The investment, from BBSRC, includes support for 14 Doctoral Training Partnerships (DTPs) across the UK as well as a number of industrial CASE (iCASE) studentship awards. Over the next three years, the DTPs will support 660 four-year PhD students; in addition the iCASE studentships will support 70 postgraduates…
