Strategic longer and larger grants (sLoLas)

Outline proposal deadline: 15 March 2012, 4pm
Full proposal deadline: January 2013 (exact date TBC)

The sLoLa grants call is held annually. The application process has two stages:

  • Outline applications must be submitted initially. Outlines must be submitted via Je-S. They should not exceed the page limits described in the following sections. Submissions which exceed page limits will be withdrawn
  • After assessment of outline applications, selected applicants will be invited to submit full applications

2012 call

Applicants should note the following:

  • Proposals are welcome in all areas of strategic relevance to BBSRC. For 2012, applications are particularly encouraged in the overall Knowledge Based Bio-economy (KBBE) strategic theme (see KBBE document in downloads, note changes from 2011). It is anticipated that at least 50% of the available funding will be awarded to proposals falling in this theme
  • Studentships are available for applicants within the KBBE theme (see KBBE document in downloads)
  • Research projects under the KBBE area that involve components of engineering and physical science may be eligible for co-funding by EPSRC. Applicants must contact us (see details below) for further advice if they are thinking of taking advantage of this opportunity
  • Proposals covering our strategic priorities (see related links) can be used to locate research teams in the Research Complex at Harwell (RCaH). Applicants wishing to make use of this opportunity are encouraged to discuss their requirements with the RCaH Director, Professor Simon Phillips
